GLASS  TRADE  BEADS

Presentation by: Historian Kermit Brown

 

Glass beads have been used for trade by explorers from the 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. This talk will be about the important role glass trade beads played in trade with peoples world-wide from the beginning of the 17th century through the 19th century. Kermit  will discuss the how, when and where the beads were manufactured. He will have beads representing all the methods used in making them and discuss why many of them are so collectable.

Kermit M. Brown is a native Floridian whose ancestors arrived in Florida in the late 1700s. He retired after a career in Florida museums and went on to a career in the Florida outdoors. Kermit and his wife Dianne have guided wilderness canoe trips teaching 'Canoeing for Couples' and most wilderness skills. Kermit has published a few short stories regarding growing up in Indian Pass, Florida along with several articles on canoeing and Florida history. He continues to lecture on many subjects.
